David Daturna & Google Glass

David Daturna’s “Viewpoint of Billions” – daturna.com

As technology grows at a mind-blowing rate, the creative mind of artist David Daturna is determined to mesh the two realms of art and science into one. The Georgian-born-American artist, has produced a work of art in a medium that is first of its kind; Google Glass, “a groundbreaking interactive, social experience for Glass.”  His 12-foot, 30,000 part, American flag, David Daturna’s “Viewpoint of Billions”  is constructed from various sized lenses, photos, and newspaper clippings from important events in America’s cultural, political and social history.

The Google Glass synced with special Google Glasses allows the view to personally interact with Daturna’s work.  Through questions and knowing where the viewer looks on the flag (i.e. – a picture or article clipping) the flag will begin to play images and videos associated with that feature.  Also, the flag records the reactions from the views thus the name, “Viewpoint of Billions.’

“Google Glass presents a unique opportunity to view my latest series ‘Viewpoint of Billions‘ from a completely fresh and exciting perspective, opening a new paradigm that provides a gateway to better communicate my concept and narrative. Amid all the controversy new ideas will be born. Glass will transform education, communication, the arts, the medical field and so many other areas of our day-to-day lives. On one hand it is natural to question what it all means, on the other we are fortunate to live in such a period of innovation,” stated Datuna.
