Christie’s Fine Art Storage Services hit a second time for damages caused by Superstorm Sandy

Superstore Sandy, 2012’s most deadliest and destructive hurricane and second most costly hurricane in the United States history, caused the largest storm surge in New York City on October 29^th to date.  The flooded streets, tunnels and subway lines cut off power in and around the city amounting to damages over $65 billion.  Christie’s Fine Art Storage Services, located in Red Hook, Brooklyn took great losses due to their low elevation; floods and power loss caused water and fluctuating climate damages to many works.

Earlier this year, the art storage facility was hit with a suit for $1.5 million by Axa Art Insurance on behalf of Jacqueline Piatigorsky for damages to his art collection.  Now, Christie’s has been hit a second time for $10 million by StarNet Insurance Co, on behalf of the LeRoy Neiman Foundation. The famous American Pop artist, known best for his vibrant colored athlete paintings used Christie’s facilitates to store 476 works just before Sandy hit the coast.  Christie’s showed negligence in caring for the works housed on the ground floor units causing irreparable damages.
